LB Islington struggling to transform policy into practice (cars vs bicycles)

While hopefully everybody votes in Europe, the LCC #space4cycling campaign has brought to everyone’s attention how conflicted Islington council is over their desire to do good long-term vs. their vote-winning / vote-keeping desire to do good-but-unsustainable short-term.

They’re also not doing themselves any favours throwing in special dispensations on grounds of fairness or disability without any hint that such measures are grounded in demand-based fact.

Islington’s new parking spaces – about 800 new ones at a cost of about £1000 each – see parking spaces in borough

Plus here is the council’s extended justification for it in PDF form on their website.

LCC members are taking an overall relatively dim view of it so far in on-going social media discussions on ICAG’s facebook and twitter
