Film:Our Daily Bread Tuesday 15 December 7pm on Tuesday 15 December
Welcome to the world of industrial food production and high-tech farming – and the next film in Transition Highbury’s Green on the Screen season, Our Daily Bread on Tuesday 15 December.
To the rhythm of conveyor belts and immense machines, the film takes us without voiceover or commentary into the places where food is produced in Europe: monumental spaces, surreal landscapes and bizarre sounds. This is a cool, industrial environment which leaves little space for humanity; where people, animals, crops and machines play a supporting role in the logistics of the system which provides our daily food.
After the film, there will be a discussion/presentation on local alternatives to the industrial food system, led by the policy director of Islington-based campaign group Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming.
