LB Islington Promises more help with bills and carbon reduction

The latest Islington Council Newsletter says:

The council has agreed its spending for the next year, including more money to help
residents struggling with the costs of heating and electricity
With more than one in five Islington residents suffering from fuel poverty, the council’s
budget for 2014/15 focuses squarely on helping people cope with their energy bills.
We’re investing £2.5million to help local people in three main ways:
• By insulating more homes
• Replacing old and inefficient boilers
• Providing more community energy such as the Bunhill project.

Take-up on this has been slow so why not use that money to replace the boilers on all the borough’s community buildings, including schools? It would reduce running costs to the council which is facing yet more cuts this year.
