http://www.sandbag.org.uk/ is also very good in particular re European Emissions Trading
Sandbag (a reputable charity set up by amongst others Baroness Bryony Worthington) also offer everybody a way of buying carbon emission certificates from the EU Energy Trading Scheme. Under pressure from heavy industry, the EU dished out FAR TOO MANY carbon emission certificates – millions too many – which all major emitters have to have per tonne of CO2 they spew out and as a result the price of carbon has dropped very low. Cheap carbon means industry has no incentive to clean itself up. In the absence of an organised withdrawal of these super-abundant certifcates by the EU, Sandbag allows individuals and companies buy certifcates which are then “retired”. Via their website, people can decide to offset their air flights, car driving, gas consumption at home, etc etc., by paying (currently £8.00) for a certificate covering a tonne of carbon, or however many certificates you feel like destroying. While each person’s certificate-destruction is a drop in the ocean, if thousands – or millions – of Europeans did it, we would make a change. http://www.sandbag.org.uk/carbon/
